Terms & conditions

Last updated 20 October 2026

1. Agreement

These terms govern access to DNA Origami Studio (“DnaOS”, “the software”), including the website, origami studio, DAE designer, 3D viewer, exports, and related materials. By using DnaOS you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the software.

2. Software

DnaOS, including the website, origami studio, DAE designer, and 3D viewer, is © 2026 Abhishek Kumar / DnaOS — DNA Origami Studio, and is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0. The DAE designer is licensed under GPL-3.0-or-later. You may use, share, and modify the software under those licenses. The corresponding source is available as described on the License page. Third-party libraries keep their own licenses — see Third-party attribution.

3. Research use, not advice

DnaOS is a design tool. It does not provide scientific, medical, clinical, or regulatory advice. Geometry, routing, DX motifs, sequences, melting-temperature screens, and exports are estimates. You are responsible for validating designs, checking scaffold and staple lengths, reviewing steric clashes, and following your institution’s laboratory and biosafety rules before any wet-lab work.

4. Your designs

Sequences, coordinates, and files you create remain yours, subject to any rights of others (for example patented motifs, scaffold sequences, or third-party data you import). DnaOS does not claim ownership of your designs. You are responsible for IP clearance, attribution, and export control where they apply.

5. No warranty

The software is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that routing is uniquely correct, that coarse-grained MD, structure JSON, or design JSON exports will run in a given toolchain, or that the studio will be uninterrupted or error-free.

6. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, the authors and contributors are not liable for lost data, failed experiments, wasted reagents, or other damages arising from use of DnaOS, including experimental or commercial use of exported designs.

7. Third-party formats

Exports may target DnaOS JSON, oligo CSV, SVG, XYZ, coarse-grained MD, and structure JSON files. Those ecosystems have their own licenses and documentation. Compatibility is offered in good faith and may change as those formats evolve.

8. Acceptable use

Do not use DnaOS to attempt unauthorized access to systems, to distribute malware, or to violate applicable law. Local processing in your browser does not remove your responsibility for how you use exported files.

9. Automated access

Search engines and AI assistants are welcome to read and index the public pages. A summary for AI tools is at llms.txt. Please keep automated traffic polite: don’t overload the hosted site with bulk downloads, and don’t use the protein-search endpoint for anything other than the studio.

None of this limits your rights under the GNU General Public License to run, copy, modify, and redistribute DnaOS. To get the source code, see the License page.

10. Citation

If you use DnaOS in a publication, thesis, or poster, please cite DnaOS. Copy-paste APA and BibTeX, plus the methods papers listed there, live on the Cite DnaOS page. This is a courtesy so other students can find the studio; it does not transfer authorship of your designs.

11. Privacy

Your designs stay in your browser and are not uploaded to DnaOS. Google Analytics runs only if you allow it. The Privacy policy explains what is collected, the protein search that passes through our server, and your choices.

12. Changes

We may update these terms. The date above will change when we do. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
